Filming

We've done our filming of the elderly woman but still have the flashbacks to do. We're now working out the best order of the scenes so far and how we can move different scenes around to make it the most understandable for the audience.

Genre

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h69l2Ph3GwA

This clip from Atonement uses a similar genre, of Drama and to an extent romance to the genre we would like to achieve in our film.

This scene particularly expresses this genre in its use of lighting and sound. The music is poignant and creates a sad emotional response in the audience and although our film won't necessarily be sad, we still want to create an emotional response in which the audience can relate to the main character of the film. The lighting of the film is quite dramatic and focuses on Briony by putting all the light on her and having darkness behind her.

Sound

At the very beginning of the film we would like to introduce and very romantic and mellow piano sound, the reason for this is to set the theme and tone of the film.
We would then just like Emma's grandma to talk through the narrative using voice over for the flashbacks.

Feedback from pitch

The feedback from our pitch made us realize our story needs to be more specific. Someone suggested that we could have one object as a focus in the film, which made us think about what we could use and we decided that a scarf could be a good object as the woman we are using has a good story about the way her husband proposed using the scarf.

Pitch

For our film, we've decided we want to do a documentary style film, in which an elderly woman discusses her current and past life. We will include stylized clips of her past with some non-diegetic sound over the top, for example voice over and piano playing. We'll also use shots of her current life e.g. in her home during her daily life.
